Meet the cooperatives at the heart of our mission — women-led groups and farming communities across Rwanda, DRC, and Tanzania transforming their lives through coffee.

Rwanda


Nyampinga

Nyampinga, meaning "Beautiful Women," is a women's cooperative in southern Rwanda. One of the first two co-ops enrolled in the Sustainable Growers program, they tripled production in just three years.

Mayogi Cooperative

Registered in 2010 in Rwanda's Northern Province, Mayogi's 381 farmers tend the hills of Gicumbi — an ideal climate for strong flowering and exceptional harvests.

Gashonga Coffee Cooperative

Founded in 2009 in Rusizi District, Gashonga's members earn diversified incomes from coffee and livestock. Their coffee was entered in the 2015 Cup of Excellence.

Twongere Umusaruro wa Kawa (TUK)

TUK was one of the first cooperatives selected for the Sustainable Growers program. This female-driven co-op has since graduated and stands as a model leader in cooperative management.

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)


Since 2014, Sustainable Growers has enrolled and trained 3,728 coffee growers from three cooperatives across three territories in South Kivu — Idjwi, Mwenga, and Uvira. The DRC program was established in collaboration with SCPNCK, COOPEAKI, and COCAT.

COPEAKI

Coopérative Agro-Ecologique du Kivu — a for-profit agricultural cooperative created in March 2017 in the Burhyni and Luhwindja group, Mwenga territory, South Kivu, DRC.

Founded in February 2012 by young entrepreneurs and widowed women following instability in the Grand Lac region, SCPNCK encourages local development through coffee on the island of Idjwi.

Coopérative de Café Tuungane is a female agricultural cooperative specialising in coffee, headquartered in Luvungi, Uvira Territory, South Kivu Province, DR Congo.

Tanzania


In Tanzania, Sustainable Growers will start operations in Songwe Region, with 7 cooperatives of 1,673 members in total. The approval for operations in the country has been received from the Minister of Agriculture in Tanzania and the Tanzania Coffee Board.
